Burro Verde is a home for rescued donkeys in the south-west Algarve, near Aljezur. It offers donkey walks along the Costa Vicentina: the donkeys walk beside you and carry your bags while you follow natural trails through the landscape.

A 20-year story

It all began about twenty years ago, with a single donkey and the wish to build something special. The work Sofia started in 2004, under the name Burros & Artes, has been carried on since May 2024 by Steffi, tour guide and donkey carer. Living in Aljezur for more than fifteen years, she knows the local flora, fauna and traditions well.

Good for everyone

Every visit helps care for the donkeys and is also a way to slow down and reconnect with nature. And the donkeys help the land: by grazing naturally they fertilise the soil, bring back humus and support biodiversity.
