COOP PROJECT: ALBUSTAN – HORTAS DO SOL
We are excited to introduce the MEMBER+ who has joined the COOPERATIVA DA TERRA with his project: ALBUSTAN – Hortas do sol! Meet Khaled, the farmer and producer behind this initiative.
“FARMING IS AN ART TO WHICH I AM TOTALLY DEDICATED”
Khaled’s passion for regenerative agriculture began at a young age when he started farming in a community cooperative in South India. In 2022, he embarked on his latest venture by renting one hectare of land near Bensafrim, named Albustan – Hortas do sol, which means “the abundant orchard” in Arabic.
“MY FOCUS IS THE SOIL – THE SOURCE OF ALL LIFE”
His focus is on soil health as the foundation of all life, particularly emphasizing the importance of the topsoil layer where vital microorganisms reside. Despite challenges posed by neighboring monoculture avocado farms depleting water resources, Khaled remains dedicated to enriching his soil with organic matter.

By joining COOPERATIVA DA TERRA in the Western Algarve, Khaled can now concentrate on serving the community while receiving support for infrastructure needs. Through initiatives like offering vegetable boxes at local markets and maintaining personal connections with customers, Khaled aims to foster social closeness and relationships within the community.

ALBUSTAN’s decision to join the COOP reflects Khaled’s belief in collaboration and meaningful engagement with others. As he continues to dedicate himself to his art of farming, Khaled looks forward to contributing positively to the community through his project ALBUSTAN.
